Veszprém, county town of Veszprém county
The town is bordered by the Bakon hills from the north, by the Balaton-hills from the south and by the Veszprém-plateau from the east. Veszprém is the county town lying the highest in Hungary – on the average it is 260 meters over the sea level. How to get there?
Veszprém can be accessed from Budapest on the M7 motorway and the main road 8 through the Székesfehérvár junction. From Győr it can be reached on the road 82, from Szombathely on the road 8 and from Balatonfüred on the road 73. The town can be accessed by train through the Székesfehérvár–Szombathely line or the Győr–Veszprém line.
Places to see
When in Veszprém one should not miss to see the castle, which is the second biggest integral and inhabited castle district following the Buda Castle District. Furthermore, places to see include the fire-watch tower, the Modern Gallery, the “Csikász” Gallery, the Piarist Church, the Brick Collection, the Dubniczay-house – “László Károly” Collection and Queen Gizella Museum.
