Tatabánya, the citadel of coal mining
Tatabánya, county town of Komárom-Esztergom county
Tatabánya can be found in the valley between the Gerecse and Vértes hills, only 55 kilometers far from Budapest. The homepage of Travelport.hu enlists the offers of
different hotels in the city hotel.
How to get there?
Due to its geographical position Tatabánya is a traffic junction in the county and Hungary as well. It is linked with the M1 (E60, E75) Vienna – Budapest motorway and the railway line Budapest–Hegyeshalom–Rajka also runs across the town. Tatabánya is interlinked with all the settlements in its region and the main towns of the country by bus lines.
Places to see
Owing to the industrial character of the county seat the town does not have much to see but there are some historic buildings, industrial monuments and several modern works of art on its territory. The most significant cultural institution of the town is “Jászai Mari” Theater. In addition, the Tatabánya Museum, the Open Air Mining Museum as well as the Industrial Museum are popular among tourists.
Events in Tatabánya
Cultural and other entertaining events are regularly organized in the town. From among them the most popular are the Midsummer Night’s Carnival and the Miners’ Day (with its unique mine car wheeling competition). In addition, the town takes part in many national events (e.g. the car free day, etc.). Of course, beside these places and events there are also several
popular places of amusement in the town.
