Szekszárd, county town of Tolna county
Tourists call Szekszárd the “town of wines” as well since about 4,500 cellars can be found in the town. As to its population, the town is the smallest county seat in Hungary. How to get there?
Szekszárd can be reached from Budapest on the main road 6 to Pécs, and from Baja on the road 56. From the road 6 bypassing the town the road 63 to Székesfehérvár and the road 65 to Siófok can also be reached. The seat of Tolna county can be accessed by train by the Budapest-Baja line.
Places to see
Szekszárd is famous for the Ferenc Liszt memorial place, the house of birth of Mihály Babits and the ruins of the Benedictine Abbey built in the 11th century. However, its main reputation is due to the wine since the town is the center of the Szekszárd wine-district.
Events in Szekszárd
Szekszárd has more and more places and events that are visited by tourist and local people with pleasure. The events of the Szekszárd Vintage Festival, the Danube Folk Festival, the Alisca Wine Days, the “Gróf Zichy” Running Race and those of the “Szent László” days are also very popular and attract many as a result.
