How to get there?
Salgótarján can be accessed on the road 21 through Bátonyterenye and Pásztó, leading to the M3 motorway at Hatvan or on the main road 22 through Szécsény – Balassagyarmat – Rétság - Vác or the road 2, through the highway 2/A bypassing Vác, or by train by the line 80 that interlinks the town with the capital through Hatvan.
Places to see
There are numerous castles in the neighborhood of Salgótarján. The museums are hidden in the downtown area. Salgótarján has the only underground mining museum in Hungary and a water-basin that is utilized for fishing merely. The places to see can be found mainly in the northern part of the town. It is worth seeing the churches and the cultural institutions, too.
Events in Salgótarján
The main attraction of Salgótarján and Nógrád county is their natural environment, the Palots traditions and several monuments and cultural mementos. An ever-increasing number of tourists is attracted from all over the country by the Nógrád International Folk and Gastronomic Festival. The mood, traditions and colorful costumes of the Palotz land are represented by the programs of the festival as from late July.
