Following Budapest and Debrecen Miskolc is the third biggest town of Hungary in terms of its population. How to get there?

Miskolc can be accessed by motor vehicle from Budapest on the M3 motorway. Miskolc has considerable railway lines meaning that it can easily be reached by train as well – its main railway station is interlinked with the big towns of the country by InterCity trains as well.

The most significant places to see include the Cave Spa in Miskolctapolca, the Diósgyőr Castle, the Miskolc National Theater and the near Bükk National Park. For tourists, the most attractive places are Tapolca (officially: Miskolctapolca), Lillafüred and Felsőhámor. Tapolca has a huge and wonderful park with a boating lake in it and the unique Cave Spa, while Lillafüred and Felsőhámor are nice settlements in the Bükk hills – the most popular places are the waterfall that is the highest in the country as well as Hámori-lake and the Anna- and the István-cave.

Events in Miskolc

Miskolc, in its capacity of the chief town in the region, arranges for related functions as well; it is a university town and the economic and cultural center of the county and its region. Young people from different points of the country have a nice time at the places of amusement of the town every night. The “Kocsonya” Festival (“kocsonya” is a special type of meat-jelly) is one of the most popular events in North-Hungary and within it in Miskolc. The festival is aimed at attracting foreign and domestic guests to the town in the winter season as well and at familiarizing them with a town and regional center that is rich in hospitality as well as gastronomic, cultural and tourism assets.
