How to get to Gyula?
This city of 32 thousand is very easy to access: by car you can get there from the direction of Békéscsaba, on route 44, but it is also easy to get there by train or bus.
Sights in Gyula
The only brick castle preserved intact in Central Europe is in Gyula, after the Turks were driven away, it was also used as a prison and distillery. In the knight’s hall the past was combined with the spirit of modern times, thus receptions and conferences can be organized here, in a unique environment. The performances of the Castle Theater are held in the Castle and next to the Castle, on the Lake Stage. But there are a lot more to see in Gyula, than just the Castle: other interesting sights include the Hundred Years Old Confectionary, the Ferenc Erkel Memorial House, or the Radio History Exhibition consisting of 120 items, which presents the most exciting era of the 80-year old radio service in Hungary (1925-1938).
Events in Gyula
In Gyula you can literally see one event after the other all year round. For example, the 7th Renaissance Carnival is organized at the beginning of February, in March and April visitors can attend the Spring Festival, and in May the Sunday of Flowers of Gyula. The Christmas season is also extremely popular, the Honey and Gingerbread Festival of Gyula is organized in the middle of December, and the Champagne Cup fencing contest is organized immediately after Christmas.
