Fertőd, the town of music
Fertőd is situated in the northwestern part of Hungary, between Győr and Sopron, there are about 3500 people living in the town. Fertőd is deservedly called the town of music, as Joseph Haydn, the last court composer in the history of music spent here a very valuable part of the almost two decades he spent composing, in the former Eszterháza, as a resident of the House of Music, hired by the Esterházy family. How to get to Fertőd?
Fertőd is situated between Győr and Sopron, only 7 km from the Austrian border, so it is very easy to get here by car on route 85. However, it does not have a direct railway connection, but it is accessible by the railway main line of GySEV via Fertőszentmiklós.
Sights in Fertőd
Undoubtedly, the greatest attraction of Fertőd is the famous Esterházy Castle, the “Hungarian Versaillles”, which had its heyday between 1768 and 1790. There are several hundred thousand visitors to the castle each year, most of them are foreigners, in the salon classical music concerts are held every week from June to September, with Hungarian and foreign artists, chamber and large orchestras.
