Budapest, capital of Hungary and county town of Pest county

In addition to being a famous spa town, Budapest is the political, educational, industrial and commercial center of the country as well. The history of Budapest looks back to the ancient times – the ruins and traces of Celtic settlements have been found on the territory of Gellért-hill and the Tabán- and Víziváros-district. After Budapest had become the capital of Hungary through the merging of three towns (Pest, Buda, Óbuda) in 1873, it developed into a metropolis.
